Becoming a Love & Logic Parent Class Classes Now Forming

MedCare Pediatric Group is pleased to offer education programs to strengthen local families and better enrich the lives of children in our area. The Becoming a Love & Logic Parent® Program is a nationally recognized parenting course that teaches parents and teachers practical skills to better handle the day to day frustrations of parenting and teaching. Medcare offers this proven training course to the public in a seven week series of affordable two hour sessions. Interactive Metranome:

Interactive Metronome ® (IM) combines the concept of a metronome with specialized technology that accurately measures, assesses, and improves a person’s rhythm and timing.  It is the only program that uses visual and auditory guide sounds with exercises to improve the basic timing and rhythm skills required for development.  The IM program “trains the brain” to plan, sequence, and process information more efficiently through repetition of interactive tasks.  Exercises are performed while precise auditory and visual feedback directs the individual to match the metronome beat. The IM program has been shown to produce significant results in children with a variety of physical and cognitive difficulties including ADHD. In addition to improving academic outcomes, the IM program gives athletes an edge by improving their timing, execution, and focus.

Fast Forword

The Fast ForWord ® Family of Computer Programs develops the critical processing and memory skills that are necessary for success in the classroom and in everyday life. The program is used with children ages 5 through 16, who need to improve language, reading and overall communication skills.  For children who struggle with basic concepts, attention problems, reading comprehension and organizational skills, the Fast Forward program can help.

Pencil Pals

  • Does your child have trouble forming letters?
  • Does your child avoid writing?
  • Does your child printing or writing in cursive?

Pencil Pals is an exciting program that emphasizes fine motor development, correct grip, and letter formation skills utilizing the Handwriting Without Tears® (HWT) curriculum.  The objective of Handwriting Without Tears®, an award-winning handwriting curriculum, is to make handwriting an automatic and a fluent skill for children of all ability levels.  Children, instructors, and family enjoy HWT because it makes handwriting easy and fun to learn.  The program is unique in that it is developmentally based, works for children on all levels, uses multi-sensory teaching aids and methods, and is easy to teach and fun to learn.  Pencil Pals is appropriate for children who experience difficulties in relation to drawing, coloring, and writing. Participants should be able to follow directions and participate in a group setting.

Groups are limited to 8 students, and students must be willing to participate in a group environment.  Participation requires basic conversational skills, ability to respond to questions, willingness to follow directions, and no aggressive behaviors towards children or adults. radKIDS

This unique program is designed  to teach children to become empowered by replacing fear, confusion and panic of dangerous situations with confidence, personal safety skills and self esteem. Over the course of 3 days, children and their parents are taught about home, school and vehicle safety, avoiding predators, internet safety, uncomfortable touch and bullying prevention. Social Skills Camps

  • Does your child struggle when conversing with peers?
  • Does your child have trouble making introductions or polite conversation?
  • Does your child have trouble accepting suggestions?

We are pleased to offer Social Language Skills Groups.  Children with PDD, High Functioning Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Nonverbal Learning Disorders, Semantic Pragmatic Language Disorders, ADHD, and social anxiety are invited to work on social language skills.  Group goals include making introductions, asking questions, sharing information, expressing wants and needs, accepting suggestions, identifying emotions, monitoring body language, developing personal space recognition, repairing miscommunications, and listening to  others.  A variety of activities such as role play, games, crafts, and play will be used enhance social language skills.

Reading Rangers: Groups Forming

  • Does your child read slower than his peers?
  • Does your child avoid reading aloud?
  • Does your child guess words while reading?

Reading Rangers is a specialized reading program utilizing the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® (LiPS®) curriculum.  The LiPS® curriculum uses the Socratic phonemic awareness.  Children and adolescents become aware of the oral movement made to produce speech sounds.  The Reading Rangers program builds relationships between spoken language and literacy while participating in engaging activities that address the core reading competencies of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.  Each session starts with a group activity introducing the day’s phonemes and vocabulary.  The session ends with an activity to summarize the day’s learning events and recognize your child’s achievements.  Convenient session times are available.
